Let’s Talk About Peace: What’s Going On With China and the New Cold War?

By Dee Knight

Howdy, companions!

Dee Knight’s blog shares powerful stories, ideas, and news about peace and justice. Nowadays, I need to have a conversation with you about something truly huge that’s happening in the world. It’s around peace, reasonableness, and fellowship between nations. I, too, need to converse about something called the Unused Cold War and how China is getting more grounded within the world.

Do not stress! I’ll clarify it all in a straightforward way. You do not have to be a grown-up to care about peace. Kids can care about peace, too, and offer assistance to make the world superior.

What May Be a Cold War?

A long time back, there was something called the Cold War between the United States and a nation called the Soviet Union (presently called Russia). It wasn’t a genuine war with battles and bombs, but it was a time when the two nations didn’t believe each other. They were continuously attempting to be more grounded than the other.

Individuals were perplexed that a huge war might happen. That’s why it’s called the Cold War; it was like a war without the warmth of genuine battling.

Presently, a few individuals are saying there’s an unused Cold War, but this time it’s with China.

What’s Going On With China?

China could be a tremendous nation with over 1.4 billion people. That’s more individuals than in the U.S., Canada, and Europe all together! China used to be a destitute nation, but over the last 40 a long time, it has gotten to be wealthy and effective. Numerous individuals in China presently live better lives with more occupations, better homes, and superior schools.

Some people call this China’s rise, because China is rising up in the world. It makes computers, clothes, toys, and even fast trains. It also builds roads and bridges in many other countries to help people around the world.

But not everyone is happy about this.

Why Are a Few Individuals Frightened?

A few pioneers within the United States and other nations are stressed. They think that if China gets too strong, it might become the world’s boss. They don’t want that to happen. So now, some leaders are talking about stopping China’s rise. They’re putting up new rules and barriers so China can’t sell as much to other countries. They’re also building more weapons and making new military plans.

That’s why people say we might be starting a new Cold War, this time between the U.S. and China.

But Wait… Do We Need Another Cold War?

No! We don’t!

Cold wars make people scared. They make countries spend more money on weapons instead of schools, hospitals, and homes. Cold wars make people stop talking to each other and stop being friends. They hurt peace and fairness.

What if, instead of starting a new Cold War, we started a new friendship?

Let’s Be Fair and Learn From Each Other

China is not perfect. Just like the U.S. and other countries, it has problems. But it also has smart people, great ideas, and a big heart. Instead of being enemies, we can learn from each other. We can share ideas, help each other, and work together to stop real problems like

  • Climate change

  • Hunger

  • Poverty

  • War

That sounds much better than fighting, right?

What Can Kids Do?

You might be thinking, “But I’m just a kid! What can I do?”

Guess what? You can do a lot!

Ask questions. If someone says something scary about China or any other country, ask: “Is it true?” “Is it fair?”

Make friends from other countries. Maybe you have classmates from China or other places. Say hi! Be kind.

  • Read books or watch videos about how other people live.

  • Talk to your family about peace and fairness.

  • Write or draw what peace looks like to you!

  • When kids care about peace, adults listen. You have a big voice, even if you’re small.

A Better Future Is Possible

The world doesn’t need another Cold War. What we need is a cool peace, where countries are cool with each other, share ideas, and help everyone do better.

Let’s halt being perplexed by each other. Let’s halt building bombs and begin building fellowships.

That’s the kind of world I believe in. I think you believe in it, too.

Thanks for reading, friend. I’m so happy you’re here. Keep asking, keep caring, and keep envisioning an improved world.

Peace, Dee Knight
